The fire
8th May 2022 our beloved cabin burnt down.
Whilst we won’t be going into many details on this, it was one of the most devastating phone calls we have ever received. I got the call on 6.30am on Mother’s Day. In the shock, I initially thought there had just been a small fire and that everything was fixable. It wasn’t until I asked “so what is the damage?’ i was told “ we think it’s a total loss”
The first feeling was complete panic, anxiety, so many what ifs, sick feeling but one of the best things about kids (especially toddlers) is that you just have to carry on with all the regular programming for them which on hindsight was a great distraction.
However, the first few days were a total blur. Countless phone calls, emails, questions, advice. It’s a stress I wouldn’t wish upon anyone and we felt “lucky” that it wasn’t our primary home. I can’t even imagine how awful it is to experience that. But I also know we are only given what we can handle and I knew once the dust settled, we would be able to handle this.
