Finding a builder

When the cabin burnt down (which you can read about here) I initially wanted to sell off the land and move on.

Then as time went on, we felt so sad that this chapter could be over already we decided to think about rebuilding and meet some home builders to see what the process involved and just to get an idea of numbers, time frame, involvement from us, things that could go wrong and so forth.

We met with different builders and contractors and we couldn’t believe the variations in processes, work ethic, time frame and prices.

There were ones that didn’t show up, there were ones that said it would take 2 years to complete and there were ones that promised the world but when we asked others who had used them things didn’t add up. SO we settled with our contractor because

  • He arrived on time to our meeting

  • He was really straightforward and clear with what the process would be and he said that good communication was really important to him - so far this has been true!

  • His pricing was fair based on the national average which is $250 per sqft. We knew being in the mountains it would be slightly higher than this

  • He gave us a reasonable time frame of 9-13 months

  • He was happy to share all the documentation to prove he was licensed and insured - which we checked

  • He was happy to work with our insurance company if we needed him too

  • Him and his team are all so helpful, friendly and responded right away to any questions we had

Obviously this is the beginning of the process so I will share updates along the way but so far so good!
